For Creative Director Jacqui, silk is a dream to work with. You’ll see it featured in luxurious pieces throughout every one of our collections. The story of silk and it’s origins are as dreamy as the fabric itself…
Legend has it that a Chinese princess was sipping tea in her garden when a cocoon fell into her cup, and the hot tea loosened the strand of silk. Ancient literature, however, attributes the discovery to the Chinese Empress Si-Ling in around 2600 B.C. The Chinese mastered the art of silk for arts, decorations and clothing and it became an important part of their economy when trade boomed along the famous Silk Road.

Eventually, the mystery of the silk making process was smuggled into neighbouring Japan & India. Europe caught on about 400 years later. Now, the industry is worth billions of dollars.
“I love working with silk because of it’s natural, breathable qualities. The floating, soft material creates such beautiful, soft silhouettes. Key silk pieces in your wardrobe are luxurious musts!” – Jacqui Demkiw
