It’s All About // LEATHER

We had a chat with Creative Director, Jacqui Demkiw about leather and why you need it in your wardrobe!

Why do you love leather?

Leather is a timeless must-have. Wear different styles for different occasions, add edge to your cocktail dress or street style cool to your denim.

Why White Suede leather?

There are so many leather pieces available now that it can seem really hard to make a choice! What makes our pieces special is the quality, fit and durability. Our leather gets even better with age and it will last the distance. You only have to try on one of our jackets to feel the difference! For every White Suede leather jacket, there is a 22 step process of hand selection, special drum dye and preparation.

How should we choose which piece to go for?

Every jacket is amazing, it depends on your personal style and what you want the jacket for. In my experience, 2 or 3 jackets will cover you for literally any outfit situation! Do you want it to go over an event dress? Or something small and compact to keep warm, your weekend statement piece or something that all your friends will want? You honestly can’t go wrong with any of our styles.

What styles do we have to choose from?

The cropped jacket: this is our best seller and has our trademark curved seams and 3/4 sleeve. It’s a classic that will turn heads and is the perfect piece to wear over a dress, being compact enough to take out without being bulky. Functional and gorgeous.

The cropped jacket with zips: this piece is our classic crop with a difference; slightly longer in the body and full length sleeves with zips. It has the same trademark curved seams which add shape and silhouette to any body shape.

The 80s jacket: this one is my personal favourite. It’s the most versatile piece that can be worn zipped up (perfect for Winter days), styled completely open with its oversized collar (perfect with a knit) or worn as a cape by simply placing the jacket over your shoulders and buttoning the back studs. It’s the ultimate effortless wardrobe addition.

The Tumble jacket: this is our signature leather fitted style with angular front zip detail and stretch ponte inserts for comfort. Always so popular!

Limited edition: I love to create special jackets for new seasons that are limited edition and super on trend.

“I am such a lover of monochrome. Liquid blacks and textured whites are must haves in your wardrobe. But find the perfect shade of red? Total game changer. Our ruby shade was specially created for my July capsule collection, Nouveaux Romantic. It’s passionate, playful and makes a powerful statement that you will want to own for years. Build your wardrobe by taking classics and adding pops of colour for when you feel like embracing the darker side of romance. Add some magic to your all black ensemble with ruby lips, nails or jewels. Everyone needs a little ruby red in their life.”

Power Suiting // Is Back

Power suiting is so much more than shoulder pads and lapels. When Coco Chanel introduced suiting to women a new era in fashion was born. Since then the power suit has given us stand out fashion moments throughout history. Here are some of our favourites…

power-suit-blog-v1

“Wear the tuxedo jacket with a leather cami underneath for the ultimate tough girl look. Style it open with a soft cami for a more feminine take, or buttoned with a lacy bralette for a sexy nighttime look. Embrace the power of the silhouette by highlighting the tuxedo jacket’s strong shoulders paired back with ripped boyfriend jeans.

A crisp white shirt can be worn open as a jacket or tucked into tailored pants for a clean, modern look. Pair a draping cashmere knit with your trousers for a softer work to weekend look.

A power suit gives you confidence, never goes out of style and is so versatile. These are some of my absolute must have pieces.” – Jacqui Demkiw

Jacquie Alexander can pull off this season’s biggest trend like no other. Off the shoulder pieces are huge at the moment so we thought a collaboration with the Because I Needed It blogger was a match made in heaven.

“Off the shoulder, leather & monochrome… Three of my favourite things. Pairing back these lux pieces with my sneakers and denim creates the perfect balance for spot on street style.”

Story // Our Love Affair With Silk

silk-blog-v2

For Creative Director Jacqui, silk is a dream to work with. You’ll see it featured in luxurious pieces throughout every one of our collections. The story of silk and it’s origins are as dreamy as the fabric itself…

Legend has it that a Chinese princess was sipping tea in her garden when a cocoon fell into her cup, and the hot tea loosened the strand of silk. Ancient literature, however, attributes the discovery to the Chinese Empress Si-Ling in around 2600 B.C. The Chinese mastered the art of silk for arts, decorations and clothing and it became an important part of their economy when trade boomed along the famous Silk Road.

Eventually, the mystery of the silk making process was smuggled into neighbouring Japan & India. Europe caught on about 400 years later. Now, the industry is worth billions of dollars.

“I love working with silk because of it’s natural, breathable qualities. The floating, soft material creates such beautiful, soft silhouettes. Key silk pieces in your wardrobe are luxurious musts!” – Jacqui Demkiw

Beautiful. Strong. Parisian. Sticking to her signature of modern, curated styling, Jacqui Demkiw has created a darkly romantic collection for AW16. The aesthetic maintains her love of contradictions: powerful but soft, dark and light, classic but still modern. White Suede’s signature handwriting of lace, leather and handcrafted pieces continue to cast a spell on the girl who wears them.

Shot in the Victorian countryside at Hanging Rock, the landscape reflects the haunting beauty this collection encapsulates. The contrast of the harsh rock with gentle blue sky, the clean lines of gumtree and the soft dreamy silhouettes of flowers and leaves made the location a perfect choice.

Feel our Modern Romance.
